Dr. Griffin Sonstegard
After residency, Dr. Sonstegard was stationed at Fort Sill, OK where he was the sole oral surgery provider and officer in charge for Fort Sill Dental Health Activity. He not only established partnerships between the local hospitals and the military community, he also served as the oral and maxillofacial surgery mentor in the Fort Sill Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency, educating and guiding recent graduates in more advanced procedures. His dedication to excellence and safety was evident as he led his clinic through the process to receive accreditation from The Joint Commission.

Upon completion of his time with the United States Army, Dr. Sonstegard and his family felt the mountains calling and returned to Washington. Dr. Sonstegard, his wife and three children live in Woodinville and are thrilled to have the opportunity to start a practice in the community they love. In his free time, Dr. Sonstegard enjoys skiing, kayaking, experimenting with different methods of brewing coffee, and building - his most recent project being a treehouse.

Dr. Sonstegard's main priorities are that his patients are safe, feel comfortable, and receive exceptional care. He is known by staff and patients alike for taking time to honestly and thoroughly address patients' questions and concerns...and also for his eccentric Spotify playlists.

Dr. Sonstegard's path to practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery has taken him from rural Minnesota to Norway, from the United States Army to group practice, to ultimately settling here in Woodinville, WA. His work ethic, integrity, and dedication to excellence has served him well in all of his ventures and he is excited to bring his experience and expertise to his own clinic.

Dr. Sonstegard completed his undergraduate degree at Saint Olaf College in Minnesota. He commissioned into the United States Army through the health professions scholarship program, and earned his doctor of dental surgery degree at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. During that time, he participated in an exchange program with the dental school at the University of Bergen in Norway, and spent a semester learning about and providing oral healthcare abroad. In dental school, Dr. Sonstegard fell in love with the complex procedures and functional changes that could be achieved through surgery and decided to pursue specialization. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, WA. It was there that he and his family fell in love with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Why Choose a Board Certified
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon?
All oral & maxillofacial surgeons complete a residency program after dental school that is specifically focused on oral and maxillofacial surgery, gaining in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in surgical procedures related to the face, mouth, and jaw.

Board certification is a voluntary process that oral surgeons undergo to demonstrate competence in their specialty. It involves first passing a written examination, and then an oral examination administered by a board of oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
This certification is an indicator that the surgeon has met or exceeded established standards in the field. The surgeon is required to meet continuing education standards and annual board certification maintenance. Board certification is a mark of recognition among the medical and dental communities as it demonstrates a commitment to ethical standards, expertise, patient safety, and continuing education.
